Newton’s equation of gravity defines the force of attraction between two masses. The force is directly proportional to the two masses while inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. This was fine if you were applying this to two mass system. Newton himself was perplexed as to how will the equation account for a third mass thrown in. Or many masses.

Explanation

Let us look at an experiment known as Grand Tack Experiment. It is often cited as an evidence to explain how planets of the solar system achieve synchronisation.

This experiment involves multiple metronomes mounted on a common platform. Each metronome can be set to unique frequency of its own. The behaviour of metronome is observed in two conditions. First when the platform on which they are mounted, is fixed. Second when the platform is free to swing.

 

Fixed Platform: When the metronomes are set to different frequencies and let go, each keeps its oscillations till the friction brings the metronome to standstill position. They never sync.

Swinging Platform: When the platform is free to swing, the metronomes achieve perfect sync with each other soon.

This experiment shows that when the platform has been allowed to swing, it facilitates the
transfer of information from one metronome to the other. And this happens instantaneously.

This is how planets of a solar system achieve synchronous orbits with each other. But what is perplexing is the Grand Tack Experiment had a platform that could transfer the information between each other and facilitate the balance. What about planets. Who is transferring this information across vast astronomical space?

Well the answer is space itself. SPACE is the platform on which/ in which the planets are mounted, and SPACE is the platform which instantaneously transfers the information among the planets.

In the same manner, in newtons equation it is the space which is transferring the information to the third mass and affecting its motion.

When you calculate the value of F=m1*m2/ d2the force calculated is not force with the two masses in isolation. The Force F is a resultant force after having arrived in equilibrium with third mass. This third mass could be the universe itself.

So, the universe has already communicated to both the masses and the result measured is post communication. Every such measurement has in it, an in-built the universe’s effect.
